NATURE OF THE WORK

A Machinist is a skilled worker who shapes metal and nonmetal parts by using machine tools and hand tools. The work requires fine measurements and a knoweldge of blueprints and written specifications. The Machinist must have a working knowledge of the properties of metals and machine tools and also much have knowledge of the use of a computer for Auto CAD and Auto CAM.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
The Machine Shop program consists of a specialized classroom for shop experiences which are concerned with all aspects of shaping metal parts. In addition to machine tool practice, the student will be learning CNC, Auto CAD/CAM and heat treating.

JOB OPPORTUNITIES
Any manufacturing company of any size employs Machinists. Some work as machine operators who produce parts for aircrafts, automobiles and other vehicles. Machinists are employed to maintain manufacturing equipment in plants such as steel mills, paper mills and chemical plants. Machinists also work as tool and die makers.
ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS
Each student must have completed the tenth grade, be mechanically inclined, have average ability, be willing to work and learn and be willing to get his/her hands dirty.
